Smudging is used to clear negative and/or stagnant energy from a room, house, healing space, person, crystal or object.

Before smudging open a window or door slightly to let the energy escape, have a clear intention of why you wnt to smudge, call in your Angels/Guides to help you and have a single feather or smudge/ceremonial fan or something that has meaning to you to waft the smoke.

Light the sage holding the abalone shell underneath to catch any ashes that fall, once caught fan the flame out as it is the smoke you want. Smudge yourself first by wafting the smoke up and over you. Then walking around your home or space waft the smoke around the room, up into corners, under beds, etc. while stating your intention out loud for the clearing. Do every room, even the basement. If you have an attached garage, smudge it as well. When complete, stub the sage out in sand/dirt or run under water to extinguish. Repeat as necessary.
